Results Realised

As our many satisfied clients will tell you, having a basement conversion or new basement build is life-changing. Not only do you gain extra living space, but a habitable basement also adds greatly to the value of any property.

Extending your home with a basement is a far more affordable option than selling up and moving to a larger property, especially in pricey London and the surrounding counties.

You will be able to gain more space from excavating a basement than you would achieve through a loft conversion or above-ground extension given that the basement can spread out beyond the footprint of the house to extend under the garden.

Basement Usability

Given that external access to a basement can be created, they are perfect for a home office, or make an ideal “granny at”. For a large family a basement can provide much-needed extra bedrooms, playroom, games room or TV lounge for the kids.

Many homeowners utilise their basement as a home theater. Mood lighting and audio-visual equipment can all be wired in during the construction phase, making a superb soundproof bespoke space for leisure and pleasure. This is just one of the options for making your basement the entertainment hub of the home.

We’ve also installed basements to be used as saunas, and therapeutic massage or meditation spaces. A basement is the ideal location for an indoor swimming pool which can be used year-round. Whatever your inspiration for the use of your basement, give us a call and we will discuss how best we can make the space work for you. With a modern basement you can think “outside the box” way beyond just a workshop or wine cellar. Our design team can create innovative solutions to utilise space effectively and ensure the new area is well lit using both natural and artificial lighting.

Design Your Basement

The design of a basement is not a simple matter. It goes far beyond a floor plan and deciding where the access should be. Building a basement requires careful planning, from an initial site survey and exploratory work to the detailed structural design and waterproofing system. There are many different types of stairs that can lead down to a basement, from traditional wooden flights to bespoke designer styles. Each aspect of the design process is inter-related. In fact, often it needs creative thinking to determine the best place to situate them which means it requires a team approach with a pooling of roles and responsibilities to interpret the client’s ideas. Exterior access is often required as well, especially if the basement is to be turned into a self-contained flat, or for fire escape purposes. Basement Builder has the ability to appropriately design basements for all sorts of purposes, under all sorts of properties. Each basement design is unique given the vast amount of factors involved which have to be considered and provided for in the design – everything from the soil and ground water conditions, to the pertinent building regulations and the proposed use of the basement room/rooms. Natural Lighting

Lighting is the most important aspect to a successful basement conversion. There are many ways to light a basement with natural light, from lightwells that can have either windows or doors to external courtyard areas, or from sunlight tubes or mirror shaft, this photo shows just how effective a mirror shaft can be if fitted correctly.

Artificial lighting
It is so important to get this correct, and is an exciting part of the basement planning.
The photos show the different moods that can be created from a dual basement lighting systems. The central LED spotlights give a crisp white light and the LED wall wash system creates a much softer atmosphere. We have lots of ideas and experience to help you create something very special.
